What do Cats Think About All Day

Thursday, March 06, 2008
My cat is pretty lazy. He sits around most of the day and just stares at things. He often is in the window looking out and trying to find a bird or a squirrel, but that's about it. As I type this he is sitting about 3 feet at me just looking at me for no particular reason. He will probably look away in a minute and then just stare at the wall.

I constantly have thoughts going through my mind all the time, but I'm sure that cats don't think like humans. So what goes through my cat's brain all the time. I doubt its blank, it must be thinking of something, I just don't know what. I think we humans tend to anthropomorphize our pets way too much, so I wouldn't even know where to begin in terms of thinking about what my cat thinks about.

Do you have cats? What do you think they think about?

According to this,http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/columns/?article=catsanddogscatthink, your cat is probably philosophizing, or just wondering what your thinking about all day. :)

Cat is definitely thinking: Where do I trade this guy in? He doesn't understand he's my slave. I have to tell him how to do everything, fill my dishes, clean the cat box, etc. Not only that - he's ugly. He only has fur on his head and you can actually SEE his skin. Disgusting. I have to put up with this??? He has no fur and just to show you how stupid he is, he takes all of his clothes off and gets under running water every day, on purpose!! I try to be understanding but this is too much. Parenthetically, when the cat stares off into space or at the wall, he/she is stoned on catnip.

cats are not simply staring into space: they are watching angels hoover in place.

Buggy is a Zen master. You can
see by the wisdom in her eyes that she is too wise to exist in merely
the mortal realm.

She knows many secets of the universe and if you sit with her she will smile kindly upon you, ad invite you to join her in contemplation.

i'm pretty sure my cat likes to think about how great i am. "miya!" i yell and she frantically comes running to me every time, shes a talkative lil' bugger always meowing and purring when i'm not even touching her. she must be thinking i'm amazing. i deserve a reward. i love my cat.

hmm.. I think that cats are merely in their own state of consciousness which could possibly be more intellegant than our own as humans. People are constantly worrying about the day to day struggle in life such as children, money, food, entertainment, seleb drama, etc. Cats must be analyzing whats important to them, which i imagine is hunting prey, laying in the sunlight, drining from the water spout, and so on.
In the end, every creature on earth leads its own life, and interprets is day to day existence differently.

Cats, like most animals, simply live in the moment. They are reactionary creatures. They 'respond' to actions or situations around them. Cats are curious by nature, in that, if allowed to, they explore their environment, using their acute sense of smell & hearing. They are capable of showing love & respond to love, sometimes in very affectionate ways. They don't lay around wondering when you're going to come home. But they 'react' when you do, and enjoy your company when you are at home. They see in color, know what you look like, & have built-in night vision. They are very playful by nature. Cats are fascinating creatures.
